I was talking to my husband one night about the topic of people communicating with their loved ones after their passing.
I was discussing the many books I've read about it and the fact that apparently this phenomena is not as rare as one would think.
I was telling my husband about the many reports of people seeing their deceased loved ones in dreams, and receiving messages. Usually in these dreams, the message is simply to let them know that even though they have "died", they are very much alive and very happy.
Some people have even reported receiving phone calls from their loved one, after their loved one has passed. In many of the reports, the person does not hear anything on the phone other than crackling or silence. Yet they note that their call display shows that the phone call came from their loved one's cellphone or house phone. Even though that phone number is no longer in use.
Anyway, I was discussing all of this with my husband who then commented, "My mom never contacted me after she died." Then jokingly he said, "Would have been nice if she had bothered to phone me."
A couple of days later our home phone rang. I was busy in the kitchen and didn't know where the cordless phone was so I yelled to my husband to answer it.
He was down in the basement and didn't hear me calling him. I wandered into the living room to look for the phone but didn't see it anywhere. The base of the cordless phone then began beeping to let me know there was a new message.
I played the message and heard a very old woman's voice. She said, "Hi, it's me, sorry I took so long but I was just busy getting settled and everything. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I got here okay and I'm just fine."
I didn't recognize the voice and wondered if the woman had called a wrong number. I felt bad if the message was intended for someone else and then they didn't receive it, so I went and looked for the phone. I was going to check the call display and call this woman back and let her know that she called the wrong number.
I found the phone in the dining room and looked at the call display. It said, "Long distance", but with no name. The number on the screen was just a bunch of 0's, ten of them, followed by a 7.
I then picked up the phone and dialed # 69 to see if that would tell me the number. I dialed and heard the recording, "the last number that called your line can not be reached by this method".
As I began to think to myself, "Well that's weird." I immediately remembered my conversation with my husband a few nights prior.
Just then my husband came up out of the basement. I told him to come and listen to the new phone message.
I played it for him and all he said was, "That's weird." I then reminded him of our conversation a few nights prior. My husband laughed. I then asked him if he thought it sounded like his mom who had passed away several years ago. He played it again and said, "I'm not really sure."
We kept the message for a few days. After thinking about it some more, my husband began to realize that it actually did sound a lot like his mom.
Was it really a call from the "other side"? I have no idea but my husband thought it sounded an awful lot like his mom, and it was an awfully odd coincidence.

Throughout my entire life, as far back as I can remember, I have had experiences that one could label "paranormal". Through my experiences, I have come to the realization that there is far more to this world and this universe of ours than we can possibly even begin to imagine. I very much believe without a doubt, that when our physical body dies, the part of us that makes us who we are; our energy, our essence lives on.
If you would like to reach out to me or wish to share a personal experience, I would love to hear from you!
